I started this blog because I really wanted to document everything from this new experience, my first pregnancy. I've written in my journal, but it is just so much easier to blog! It's not as secure because maybe I'll never print this out and it will be lost in cyber-space, but this is more enjoyable for me than writing with paper and pen (plus I can make it look so much cuter!). So here goes. I'll start at the beginning.
In August my brand new employer sent me up to Salt Lake to train in the corporate office. It so happened that the week of training was also one of the weeks between semesters for Curt. SO, he got to go with me for a mini vacation. (See curtandmandy for the post about that week). I was supposed to start my period two days before we left. Well, it didn't start, but I've never been super regular so it wasn't a big surprise. However, my womanly intuition told me that something was different this time. Of course I packed to be prepared for it (woman products) but I also slipped a home pregnancy test into the luggage. The days went by and still no period. I was supposed to work every day, but they decided to give me Friday off. Curt already had plans to go golfing with a friend that morning, so I got to sleep in. I woke up and decided it was time to know for sure. I took the test and it immediately revealed a "+". Wow, talk about being overwhelmed! Curt and I had been talking about starting our family, but we thought it would be best to settle in a little more, work for a while (especially because I wasn't on insurance yet) and go from there. But everybody knows that our plans are not always the right plans!! Putting aside that I was scared to death, I got on my knees and thanked Heavenly Father for giving me this opportunity and asked Him to bless His little child that He would send to me. I cried, I think out of joy and terrifiedness. Curt came back to the hotel a few hours later and we started packing everything up to check out and leave. I couldn't keep it in very long. I looked at him and said "I have something to tell you." His eyes popped out in shock because he had seen the test in my bag a few days earlier and knew what was coming. I smiled and said "We're going to have a baby!" He held me really tight and we both got teary eyed. It was a special moment which we tried to let soak in for the rest of the day.
When we got back to Vegas we called a couple ladies in the ward to get some doctor recommendations. We chose one that both recommended and made the appointment. Luckily, I had had a terrible cold for that first week that we were back from Utah so my co-workers assumed that I was going to the doctor for that. The doctor took quite a bit of blood, and those of you that know me know that I shudder at the thought of needles so it was really nerve-racking to have that thing in my arm for so long. He let me lay down which helped a lot. So we got the worst part out of the way first. Then he did an ultrasound and we were able to see the little bean that would become a baby. It's little heart was already beating. I almost cried when I saw it.
I was about 7 weeks along at the time of the visit. At that point I had been a little uncomfortable and had thrown up a couple of times. But it has only gotten worse since then!! I won't go into too much detail, but let's just say "morning sickness" should be renamed "all day sickness". Seriously. It gets so miserable! I kinda got used to the feeling nauseated part, but what is so much worse than that is that I have no appetite! I get so hungry, but absolutely no food sounds, looks, or smells appealing in the slightest. But I do not want this to turn into a complainalogue. That is all I'm going to say about that. I have 2 more weeks of the first trimester so I'm optimistic that I will start to feel better soon.
These first few posts will be quite long because I have a lot to write about. I really should have started this a long time ago, but I guess I'll just play catch up :)

Middle of the Beginning
I was going to start posting....but I'm not feeling so well. What a way to start this blog off, eh?
